What do you mean by open and limited edition?
An open edition is a series of reproductions that can be expanded at any time, so there may be an infinite number of prints made. A limited edition is a group of reproductions that stop at a certain number, and no further prints are made. These are usually more valuable because they will become more rare with time, and no future prints will ever be made of that image.

So what then is an Artists Proof?
An artist proof is a printing where the artist signs and numbers each, sometimes even adding an extra original image into the matting space called a 'remarque'. Artist proofs are very small in number compared to open and limited editions. They are very closely associated with the artist and usually include small variations from print to print where the artist is experimenting and perfecting the color and contrast of the print compared with the original. If they are embellished with a small original remarque in the margin, then they can be referred to as original prints. The Artist will sometimes agree to personalize a print, a proof, or an original print to the recipient. That also significantly increases its value. In other words an artist proof that has been remarqued and personalized is top of the line in value and rarity. It doesn't matter whether it a stone lithograph, a offset lithograph,a serigraph, or a glicee print, the more an artist does to it and the lower the number of prints the more valuable it will become and the price rises accordingly. In terms of the process an offset lithograph is valued low, stone lithographs next, then serigraphs and most valuable is the glicee print. One can easily see how a offset that has been remarqued and personalized can be more valuable than a limited edition serigraph or a glicee!
